HISTORY OF YBARRA
The history of Ybarra y Compañía is the history of Seville and its vocation for connecting with the world. Its origins date back to 1843, when José María de Ybarra y Gutiérrez de Caviedes launched a regular shipping line between Bilbao and Seville. At a key moment of economic development, this initiative not only boosted trade between the north and south of Spain but also placed Seville on the major maritime routes of the time.

José María Ybarra Gutiérrez de Caviedes

A businessman and prominent figure in Sevillian public life, José María de Ybarra was also the city's mayor and one of the promoters of the April Fair in 1846, contributing to the birth of one of Seville's most representative traditions. From its beginnings, Ybarra y Compañía was thus linked not only to economic progress, but also to the city's cultural identity.

Ybarra and Company

Over the decades, the company consolidated under the name “Ybarra y Compañía,” expanding its routes, modernizing its fleet, and adapting to each historical period. Steamships such as the Itálica, the Triana, or the Vizcaya are part of a business legacy that, for over a century, connected destinations, people, and opportunities, always with Seville as the starting point.

Today, Ybarra y Compañía begins a new chapter by bringing that same spirit into the realm of hospitality with the opening of Hotel Ybarra Sevilla. If in the 19th century the company linked territories across the sea, in the 21st century it does so by creating spaces to welcome, care for, and accompany the traveler.

Hotel Ybarra Sevilla

Hotel Ybarra Sevilla thus represents the natural evolution of a historic brand, keeping its values—tradition, commitment to the city, and excellence in service—intact in a new context. Located on Avenida de la Palmera, in the surroundings of the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition and next to Seville's green lung, the hotel continues that history, offering a contemporary way to experience the city.

A project that does not represent a change of course, but the continuity of the same essence: that of Ybarra y Compañía, which continues to connect Seville with the world, today through experience and hospitality.
